Volunteer your time, skills or experience
Volunteers can contribute in many ways to a school serving visually impaired students. Some people may be able to support educational activities, while others may bring technology skills, event experience, communication abilities or simply time and encouragement. The most useful contribution depends on the school’s current needs and the volunteer’s own strengths.
We encourage interested volunteers to introduce themselves through the form and explain the type of support they would like to provide. Students benefit when volunteers approach their role with patience, respect and a willingness to learn. A volunteer does not need to assume what a visually impaired student can or cannot do. Instead, the focus should be on creating opportunities and providing appropriate support when it is genuinely needed.
Volunteer engagement can also help build awareness in the wider community. By spending time with students and understanding the school environment, volunteers can become advocates for accessibility and inclusion in their own workplaces, colleges and communities. If you are part of a company, college or organisation interested in a structured volunteering activity, mention the same in your enquiry so the school can discuss suitable possibilities.
